Prince Albert becomes a city On Oct. 8, 1904, Prince Albert became a city. Gaining city status was a hasty and disorganized affair advocated by mayor William T. Gillmore. The mayor was determined 1904 wouldn't die without the birth of a city. Despite the fact Gillmor failed to provide citizens with the required two months public notice to debate the issue, he succeeded in pushing the city status bill through territorial legislature. "Citizens get up a parade, and a
bonfire, get out your band and make a noise; celebrate the event,
and let the world know you're alive" -Prince Albert
Advocate, Oct. 10, 1904.
