May 28, 2019

Prime Minister Trudeau promised the 2015 federal election would be the last to use first-past-the-post (FPTP). Yet, on or before October 21, 2019, we will have a federal election using FPTP. Virtual guest speaker Réal Lavergne, from Fair Vote Canada, will illustrate results of an election under FPTP and what the result would have looked like with proportional representation (PR). The illustrations show how PR is more democratic.

Co-sponsored by Prince Albert Chapter of The Council of Canadians.

Category: Registered Adult ProgramsSpring Book Club - "When We Left Cuba" by Chanel Cleeton

May 30, 2019

The Cuban Revolution took everything from sugar heiress Beatriz Perez--her family, her people, her country. Recruited by the CIA to infiltrate Fidel Castro's inner circle and pulled into the dangerous world of espionage, Beatriz is consumed by her quest for revenge and her desire to reclaim the life she lost.
As the Cold War swells like a hurricane over the shores of the Florida Strait, Beatriz is caught between the clash of Cuban American politics and the perils of a forbidden affair with a powerful man driven by ambitions of his own. When the ever-changing tides of history threaten everything she has fought for, she must make a choice between her past and future--but the wrong move could cost Beatriz everything--not just the island she loves, but also the man who has stolen her heart.

Register beginning on Wednesday, May 1, and pick up your book to get started reading! Enjoy a great discussion and prizes too! We’ll see you there!
