Movie Matinees

What could be better than relaxing and watching a movie in a lovely theatre?  Sounds pretty good, eh?  Now what if that movie was free?  Well,  things just got even better!  Here at the JMCPL, we host no-cost Movie Matinees in the Mahon Auditorium.  Just follow the signs downstairs to take advantage of this free service and enjoy some cinematic storytelling.  We screen a wide range of films so there’s something for everyone (just make sure to check the rating first – we adhere to NFB regulations).  Check this page or the calendar on the Children programming page to find out what’s playing.  See you at the movies!

Spider-Man:  Far from Home (129 min., PG13)

Spider-Man and his friends, Ned, and MJ go on a much awaited European Vacation. Peter Parker plans to leave the path of heroism behind for a while, but it’s quickly dragged into a new adventure. Nick Fury shows up and recruits Spider-Man to investigate the attacks of Elemental creatures across the continent. Their detective work leads to a confrontation with the villain Mysterio. Mysterio engages Spider-Man and Nick Fury using hair-raising illusions and effects that make them question their own senses. Spider-Man is forced to look inward before he is able to defeat Mysterio and complete his adventure far from home.

A re-telling of the classic tale about a grumpy old creature living in a cave on Mt. Crumpet who can’t stand to see his neighbors in Whoville enjoying themselves. Things are especially bad at Christmas, when the Whos kick their merriment into high gear with fantastic celebrations. This year, the Grinch decides to dress up like Santa Claus on Christmas Eve and steal all the Christmas gifts and decorations so the Whos can’t enjoy the season. What he finds, however, is that Christmas in Whoville is much more than gifts and decorations, it’s a time to celebrate love and friendship.

After Lionel receives a letter written supposedly by the mythological Bigfoot, he travels to the Pacific Northwest of America to find proof of a living link between man and beast. When he locates the very real and mysterious being, his life takes an unexpected turn away from his goals after the creature begs him to help it find its cousins in the icy mountains of the Himalayas.

Landing in Ryme City, he encounters his father’s old Pokemon partner Detective Pikachu, and the two unwillingly team up to uncover the mystery of his father’s disappearance. Battling enemies of all shapes and sizes, the duo immerse themselves into the world of the Pokemon universe as they become best friends and unlikely heroes.
